The deceased, identified as Gabriel Abiodun, was shot dead yesterday by gunmen suspected to be robbers, who were said to have trailed him after leaving a branch of Guaranty Trust  bank at Alagbaka area of the city.

An eyewitness, who was on the scene, said Abiodun was trailed from the bank by the three gunmen to the church where they rained bullets on him.

He said:

“The man (bursar) had just returned from one of the new generation banks to withdraw N500,000, which we learnt was probably meant for retirees.

“The robbers trailed him because of the money and shot him in the thigh.

“I think they struggled with the bursar for the money, snatched it, shot him before running away.”

A source from the diocesan secretariat confirmed the attack, noting that the church had invited the police for investigation.

The source said:

“It is true. The man in charge of the church’s finance was shot dead this morning (yesterday) around 9:30 am on the premises of the diocese.

“The police have been invited to the premises and they have removed the body. It was a sad moment for us.”

RIP Mr Gabriel Abiodun, May the Lord accept your deeds on earth. It is a high risk to carry such cash around in a country like Nigeria, where there are desperate criminals and no adequate security. Transfer is suppose to be done with cellphone or direct from the bank, straight to the account of beneficiaries without taking the cash out of that bank. A lot of informants and unsuspected criminals are watching you.

Electronic transaction is encouraged to reduce evil men who connive with insiders to perpetrate crime.parishioners should liase with the bank to train the older folks on how to make transactions safe.rip

You people should understand that transfer doesnt work for everybody IN NIGERIA. A cow seller will collect his CASH from you even if you are buying 10cows. They dont believe in mobile banking. For this man, who knows maybe he needed to pay some people who dont even operate bank accounts or low level staffs who just want to collect their money and go home. So so unfortunate. I pray the perpetrators get caught and justice is served.

This gentleman life was truncated because of #500k. I don’t know how many of them will share the money plus the bank insider who gave them the information. I guess each one of them will part away between 20k or 30k. Does taking the man’s life worth the money? Oh! My goodness, Nigeria is no more a Country but a hell on earth.

Some bad law enforcement personnel or their gang members are among those committing these crimes, until they overhaul them, nothing will get better…only God know how this administration next level will be.
