Teenager Forced To Marry 56 Year Old Mentally Challenged Man In Ozubulu Anambra Rescued
Help has indeed arrived for the 16 year old girl forced to marry a 56-year-old mentally challenged man in Anambra.
The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has taken up the case.
The Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Ndidi Mezue, said in a statement made available to Southern City News on Sunday that the ministry was working in collaboration with the police and other agencies on the issue.
Mezue denied reports in some media that the ministry had dissolved the alleged marriage and rescued the girl.
Mezue stated;
“The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs wishes to inform the public that it has received a complaint about an alleged underage marriage involving a girl from Ihiala, who is married to a man from Ozubulu.
“The ministry is following up on this case as it continues to collaborate with several persons and organisations, including security agencies, towards a quick resolution.
“The ministry is in contact with the girl’s family, the Anambra State Police Command and other interested parties in the matter, including human rights activists.
“The ministry’s utmost concern at this period is the safety and well-being of the young girl in question, as well as the well-being of her young child.”
The ministry promised to protect the dignity and privacy of the innocent persons involved, while calling on those working on the matter to toe the same line.
It added;
“We can report at this time that considerable progress has been made on the matter and wish to state that the young girl in question is not yet in the custody of the ministry as reported on several social media platforms.
“We wish to assure the public that in line with our mandate, and as can be seen in previous social welfare interventions undertaken by the ministry, we will pursue this particular case towards achieving a satisfactory and positive outcome.”

Meaning that the marriage was a good thing as it’s serving to be her point of life changing contact…..
But please let all these organizations, human right and left, woman ministry etc try to be pressuring the government in doing the necessary, starting by making education free.

Have you “Rescued” the 13 years old grils that was married to a 85 years old man in Niger state last month??
I think that Esthern Nigeria is now a plays ground of all sort. Did thet tell you that Igbod don’t have their own religion and laws like the muslim North have the Sharia which allow them anything they feel good with?. How are you forcefully branding a nursing mother ‘an underaged” ; and undue publicity to an agreed marriage?

country with clueless leadership..The south saw the disturbing trend and went on rescue mission.But the govt over there in the north turns a blind eye where under aged marriage is rampant..why are we operating two laws(sharia and constitutional law) in a secular nation.let us abolish that and prosecute those behind such abuse.
