Angry LASTMA Officer Who Slapped A Judge Arrested
March 7, 2014 – Overzealous LASTMA Officer Who Slapped A Judge Arrested
An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, identified as Taye Shittu, has been arrested by the police at Pen Cinema Police Station for allegedly slapping a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Komolafe Abimbola of Court 2 Ikeja, Lagos, western Nigeria.
She was on her way to the office around Pen Cinema area of Agege when the incident happened on Wednesday.
P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that Shittu accused Mrs. Abimbola of not obeying the traffic light and ordered her to come out of her car.
She was said to have obeyed Shittu’s instruction after which there was an argument between them. During the argument Shittu was said to have slapped Mrs. Abimbola and she sustained injury on her face.
The victim reported the assault at Pen Cinema Police Station and Shittu was promptly arrested by the police.
While confirming the incident, Lagos State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Damatus Ozoani, said the accused will be charged to court after the conclusion of police investigation.
An official of LASTMA who craved for anonymity, said the attitude of Shittu was an embarrassment to the authority.
A senior official of LASTMA who pleaded for anonymity also told P.M.NEWS that Shittu has been tried internally and was subsequently dismissed from LASTMA and handed over back to the police for prosecution.
“We have conducted a board room trial for him and he has been dismissed from the service. We have also handed him over back to the police for prosecution. We do not condone such act in LASTMA,’’ said the source.
As a result of the incident, P.M.NEWS learnt that the court Mrs. Abimbola is presiding over could not sit yesterday as litigants had to take adjourment for their cases.
When P.M.NEWS visited Pen Cinema Police Station this morning, Shittu was seen in handcuffs being taken to court by the police.
Attempts by our reporter to speak with Shittu proved futile as he refused to talk and also hid his face from camera.

A so-called Judge flout the traffic law and still had the fucking guts to argue. She must kept her tongue running simply because she is a Judge which earned her the deserved slap. Judge my foot.

these are the embarrassment among many we suffer from the so called LASTMAN official. Imagine if state police is approved, who do you think lagos state government will hired? is this same thugs, if they are good at slapping, they should be equally good at shooting.

I think this will serve as a lesson to others, they see themselves as same god and they treat people like animals, they were not trained for the job and they only see it as means of getting money.

Sanity will gradually be taking place in this country. However if the complainant was not a judge the question is would the police act decisively and swiftly as they did in this case? We all know the answer as the situation might be they have no pen and paper and complainant should bring money or no enough officer to effect the arrest.
Like Oge rightly said when incompetence people are given power by the state by virture of the service to the people this is exactly what we get. I hope this will serve as a detterence to would be assaulting law enforcers in the country.

What’s wrong with our men in uniform? Just because you are wearing Lagos State Badge does not give you audacity or absolute right to slap any traffic offender. This woman was stopped for usual traffic violation. All you could have done is to impound her vehicle or make her pay some fine. That is if you really try to prove you are doing your job right. But by going too far to lay your hand on that woman, you deserve to be behind bar just to teach others like you some good lesson. It’s pathetic that in a Country like Nigeria, some law enforcement officers are still ignorant about the law they are enforcing.
