A 36-year old father, Benjamin Endurance, has been dragged before a Magistrate Court in Bayelsa State, over a three-count charge of using a hot electric heater to burn his daughter, Miss Goodness Endurance on the leg for bed wetting in her sleep.

The incident, which occurred on October 13, 2016 at about 11pm along Prosco Road in Okaka area of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was reported to the police by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

The police, led by Prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Joses Totekume, filed a three-count charge against the accused father at the Magistrate Court 4 over alleged criminal intent, condenial of the victim of proper health care and attempt to breach of peace.

In the charge sheet, the police Endurance “did willfully injure his daughter, Goodness Endurance, by using a hot electric heater on her legs because she urinated on the floor where she slept and thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 282 Cap.14 of the Criminal Code Laws of Bayelsa State of Nigeria, 2006.

“That you did willfully, recklessly and negligently deprive your daughter, Goodness Endurance, the right to health and health services by refusing to send her for medical treatment after injuring her and thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 12(1) and (2) of the Child Rights Act, Laws of Bayelsa State of Nigeria,2015
