Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw who was involved in a messy divorce with her ex British husband, Roderick James Nutall has spoken up for the very first time since the divorce. naijagists.com
In this recent interview, the actress spoke on issues surrounding her divorce amongst other things
Interview excerpt below:
How have you been able to cope with the separation?
I don’t know what to say. The Bible says, “He makes all things beautiful in His own time.” When you are down at the rock bottom, that is when God will lift you up. People have died in their marriages, some have lost one part or the other, some are still married, they have spent 30, 40 years in their marriage. You have to make the best out of your situation and move up. I have so much I want to do, I don’t have to wallow in self pity. That is just an aspect of me. Marriage does not define anybody. Our daughter is the most important thing. We have to make sure she is happy, she gets the best.
Through it all, stories are flying all round. What was your reaction then, what lesson did you learn from it?
I was driving through traffic one day, a vendor who knew me brought a magazine, saying, “Na you be this, you have to buy it”. I just laughed. They said I was dating Tonye Cole. Tonye is like a brother to me, his wife was my school mother. I called the two of them and we laughed over it. It hurts. Yes, it does. It is now a year but it seemed like yesterday. I am here, smiling with you, I am just grateful for life.
Any regret?
No regret at all. My daughter came out of the union, she is the most beautiful thing ever.
Any possibility of reconciliation?
No reconciliation. Please, my daughter is the most important person, she is still part of us. we still talk about her, we are going to look after her. We talk about her welfare. The marriage just didn’t work out.
Any consideration for second marriage or new relationship?
(Laughs) I am not looking for anybody. If it comes, it comes. I cannot say I will never love any man again. I wouldn’t say that. I can’t say I won’t.
What led to the break – up?
I can’t say that.
At over 40, you are graceful. Can you tell us your beauty regime?
I work out regularly, maintenance culture is high. I love to rest, I love to travel, I eat right, I love massage. I then leave others to God. I was even dancing in DJ Zeez’s video, that was a traditional dance.
About your failed marriage, did he ever beat you?
No. He never did. I can’t just say why it failed. Marriage does not define anybody. Once it doesn’t work, we move on, although it hurts.
But I am sure so many people would have come along to date you now that you are single?
I am not looking in that direction but if an ideal man comes, it comes. I can’t say I would never love again.(interview culled from OMG)

Why is it that the highest cases of divorce in Nigeria is recorded in Nollywood, especially among the female folks?
Well, I think it’s because they marry for the wrong reasons like wealth, fame, looks which often don’t last. And most of the times they often neglect their duties as wives and mother, basking on the euphoria of “celebrity”. A few wks back it was reported that the reason why Monalisa Chinda divorced her husband was that he had a business set-back, thereby creating a room for her to contribute more to the family upkeep. She, now seeing the man as a failure decided to end the marriage.
Thank God, the man is now happily married to another lady who will respect him as the man of the house.
Woman, take my advice: Know that marriage is “for better and for worse, for richer and for poorer” you must submit to your husband, no matter who puts food on the table. These injunctions are biblical. If you can’t keep to them don’t even bother trying to get married because chances are that it the marriage will end in divorce.

I agree with Dr. David marriage is for richer and for poorer till death do them part. i will like to use this opportunity to advise ladies to ask for direction from God before going into marriage, dont go into it for the sake of doing that and dont love somebody for what he has for the moment but love him for you will be there for him in the sun and in the rain. we are not all perfect but we should continue asking for God direction in all in other not to fall apart as we move on in life. Kate, hank GOD for ur faith & trust God dat HE will make a way where u think all hope is lost, but if d fault is from u & not d man, then u need to go bck & settle ur differences. For d fact dat ur marriage produced a baby girl, pls for d sake of d girl, try to go back dam d consequences, hardship, risk, & have one or two more. It is wel with u IJN.

You can still work it out if you allow the will of God, Divorce is not always the best option some times, the mistake u see in one can be as well seen in so many mariages or even worse. you guz are 2 imperfect person and it will also take two of u to work it out! Think about it dear Kate…

It’s easier said than don, like someone says marriage is for better for worse, women of today see marriage as starting from Nursery to university level but who can judge who in any marriages. we all have coping mechanism and there is a limit to human endurance, if one party can not cope any longer in the marriage that is when they check out. no matter how you start from nursery education to university level you can never hold a PHD in marriage. I will say people should start going to altar and ask pastor to join then to compromise not marriage as I see it as compromise with each others but when adultry and fornication enter I beg e don do.

May God forgive all these celebrities. I use to admire them but now they don’t worth a thing in my eyes. On all their flambouyancy, they still don’t stand tall till the end. What a small strenght they have. Dat is why they are failing themselves and those that looks up to them. Imagine Kate of all people. Divorce no fit am. Sebi na she reject naija men for oyinbo.
