August 15, 2012 – Nigerian Couple Jailed For 14 Years In UK For Beating Their Kids

An act which many Nigerian parents will do back in Nigeria and go scott free has become a criminal issue for a Nigerian couple who resides in London, United Kingdom. naijagists.com

The London-based Nigerian couple, Joseph and his wife Gloria Musa were jailed each for 7 years yesterday. They have been called all sorts of terrible names by UK Press for allegedly beating their 6 children with wires, hoovers and brooms and even giving their baby a morphine overdose after childbirth.

However, the couple denied all the allegations stating they were victims of racist witch-hunt.

Mr Joseph Musa and his wife Gloria Musa were both jailed 7 years each on Tuesday August 14, 2012.

According to reports, the Nigerian couple claimed their children were possessed by evil spirits and were found guilty after Coronation Street star Michelle Collins gave evidence against them.

The parents argued that the children had been ‘brainwashed’ into making the allegations by the police, the London Borough of Haringey and Miss Collins who they said ‘wanted to steal’ them, UK’s Green Crown Court heard.

Jurors rejected the parents conspiracy theories. When they are released, they face deportation back to Nigeria – despite pleas from their legal team that they have been ‘punished enough’ by having their children taken into care.

As they left the court, the paper said the couple wailed: ‘We are innocent, this is a miscarriage of justice.’

The couple were accused of beating their children with brooms, hoovers and wires and even giving their baby a morphine overdose just days after her first birthday.

According to a report in Daily Mail UK, 5 of the children were rescued after their eldest daughter threw a heart-wrenching SOS note out of a window.

The report said it was not until their one-year-old baby was given a morphine overdose over a year later that police reopened the case which led to their prosecution.

The paper said the plight of the children was so bad that Miss Collins, who met them at a church lunch, took them to the cinema ‘because she felt sorry for them’.

The Miss Collins gave evidence as a prosecution witness during the trial of the parents, both 40, who could not be named to protect their six children.

Sentencing them to seven years behind bars each, Judge James Patrick described it as ‘shocking mistreatment’ that they had tried to cover up with a ‘web of deception’.

Judge Patrick said: “No-one who sat through this trial could help but be moved by the fact that these intelligent, charming, fun, lovable children continue to love you despite what you put them through.

“You alleged a conspiracy involving a well-known actress, who had done nothing but show your family generosity and kindness, a member of a housing charity, social workers and foster carers.

“Those who had taken the trouble to support you were repeatedly accused of dishonesty, lying, and conspiracy to rob you of your children when the reality was that both of you were lying – in fact they ware simply seeking to give your children stability.”

But the parents claimed they were victims of a conspiracy – and even alleged Miss Collins was involved in a witch hunt against them and wanted to ‘steal’ their children.

One of the youngsters, a baby at the time, had been allowed to stay in the home by Haringey council, who were involved in other case called the Baby P and Victoria Climbie cases, despite the fact the five other children had to be rescued.

The abuse reportedly came to the attention of police in April 2010 when their nine-year-old wrote an SOS note and threw it out of her bedroom window.

The heart-breaking plea read: ‘My mum is the worst mum ever because she can’t cope with five of us, her broken hand and being pregnant. She always leaves me out so I always starve and I am forced to work.

‘If I don’t get enough house work done, I am beaten without mercy with the wooden end of a broom. I have scars all over me to prove it. I can’t stay here. I would like a new mum.’

It was found by a neighbour who called the police, and when officers attended the address they found the children living in messy conditions with ‘dirty’ and ‘dishevelled’ clothing.

Revealing scars the eldest said her mother had hit her with a cable, a broom, and a hoover and her father had dangled her by her feet down the stairwell of the house, tied her hands behind her back and her legs together ‘to get the devilish spirits out’, prosecutor Emma Smith said.

Her sister, who was seven at the time, had a stick shaped bruise of her thigh and after a few months in care, she drew a series of pictures showing her dad beating her and her being left home alone and including a speech bubble saying ‘I’m hungry.’

The children were left home alone for hours, sometimes days on end, with the elder kids forced to look after the others.

They had even been forced to lie to a charity and social services that they were living alone with their mother in one room and had no idea who their dad was so they could scam benefits.

Even during the trial the eldest feared she had torn her family apart with her ‘devastating cry from the heart in the form of a letter which she threw from the window’, the judge noted.

There was an investigation but no further action, and the five children remained in care until the parents once again came to police attention on 28 June last year, when they gave their baby an overdose.

‘But for the events of June 28 you would have gotten away with your crimes because of a merciful decision not to prosecute you’, Judge Patrick noted.

The couple’s sixth child, a baby girl, the report said, was also initially taken into care but then returned to her parents. They took her to St Thomas’s Hospital just days after her first birthday last year.

The paper went on to say that without treatment, the baby could have died but doctors managed to save the youngster, who it is believed was given morphine orally that morning. (vanguardngr)

Here is the thing, parents need to learn that abroad system is different from Nigeria’s system.

If you want your children trained properly abeg take them home.

This is really sad, nigerians have to learn to love their kids and care for them, what a sad thing! I am glad they were jailed, why delve such inhumane treatments on your loved ones? why do we act like animals when it comes to punishing our kids, why do we always act so aggressively towards each other. its high time nigerian act like human beings in our mannerism, when we are upset we act like animals fighting each other, when our kids act up, we beat the living daylight out of them, this behavior carries on to the kids, who in turn, turn out to be like the parents when they grow u. I get really embarrassed when I see africans acting like animals, I am happy they were locked up, maybe after spending 7 years in jail, that would make them realize how wrong they were.

To me this story seems not right. How can “a mother and a father do that to thier own children………. i mean after a woman carring a pregnancy for 9 months throgh all the odds, the ups and downs and going through the pains of labour then chooses to then be treating your own children in such a manner……. oh no…………something just doesnt add up here. I can understand that as a parents you can beat or punish your children but not in this manner and beating is not the best solution. False alligations i guess they just want to take these kids away from them and for the children if they lied against thier parants only time will tell

I was the Musa’s McKenzie friend in the family case.

    1. I warned the Musa’s ages ago that they were being set up as the classic, African evil spirit exercisors, this was incidentally never in the list of allegations, so how it appeared in the case is most odd.
    2. They refused categorically to lie about a minor thing when it would have helped them to do so.
    3. Gloria is one of the most natural and attentive mothers I have EVER met.
    4. The main social worker lied on the stand at the original finding of fact hearing, there were three witnesses to the lies.
    5. I was thrown out of court for raising this strongly and the judge refused to deal with it
    6. A police officer local to the PFRD took a report from me and went to the court to enquire
    7. The court manager refused to cooperate
    8. The Sgt at the station then squashed the matter
    9. The Judge DJ Brasse commented on and approved the court managers decision
    10. I made complaint to the IPPC about the polices in action
    11. The IPCC referred the matter to the Met Professional Standards
    12. I never heard anything again
    13. I made formal report to the LSCB
    14. The LSCB refused categorically in their duty to look at any evidence
    15. When challenged on this by me they said they would deny it
    16. The circumstances surrounding the supposed letter of the child and the circumstances described in the letter are impossible.
    17. The musa’s never owned a wooden handled broom
    18. The allegation to do with stairwell was previously a balcony, but as they never had a balcony it had to be altered
    19. The supposed letter which Haringey say they destroyed, was never forensically examined, it was was so obviously not written by the same hand that wrote the child’s school work, i have copies
    20. Haringey refused consular access to the children, and LJ Wall refused to order what is a requirement at law in that regard
    21. The person who “found” the letter could not be traced when ordered to attend court
    22. Michele Collins was recorded as saying, “not those f******g children again!”
    23. The children were held unlawfully for many months with several judges issuing unlawful order
    24. At application for habeas corpus before Justice Hogg, the judge ordered the PFRD to hold a hearing, it never did.
    25. The expert that gave evidence stated that the dose of opiates would have killed the child in 30 minutes, but the sample was taken 1 hour after the parents had taken the child to hospital
    26. It is on record that one consultant criticised a doctor for over medicating the child during that time
    27. At the trial all the children gave evidence against their parents
    28. In the original video interviews of all the children the boy stated categorically no one in our family hits anyone
    29. The older girl is recorded as stating social workers had coerced her to lie
    30. When it was discovered that Gloria was recording she was threatened and assaulated
    31. I was introduced to a child of ten and his family who had previously been in care, he stated social workers from Haringey had tried to coerce him to lie
    32. I have met other families in Haringey who are petrified of Haringey council
    33. Friends and supporters of the musa”s had their children taken
    34. These were very well dressed and smartly turned out children

I fail to see any resemblence of evidence for the picture painted, so morally courageous are the Musa’s that unlike other they could never as ministers of truth back down, Haringey could not afford that, hence a really big fitup.

There is more but that’s enough for the moment

The Musa’s will eventually expose Haringey children’s social services for what it is a place of evil. Even local councellors know things are wrong and the previous prospective tory mp believed it should be put into administration.
