August 1st, 2011 – Five other persons were injured when a trailer rammed into a passenger bus on the Bida-Minna RoadAt least three persons were burnt beyond recognition in a motor accident along Bida-Katayeregi-Minna road on Monday.
The 10-seater bus left Doko, about nine kilometres away from Bida, and was going to Minna, when it got involved in an accident about two kilometres away from Bida.
Witness accounts state that three persons died instantly. Two injured passengers were taken to the Umaru-Sanda General Hospital, Bida; while three other passengers and the driver, who were in critical condition, were transferred to the Federal Medical Hospital, Bida .
One of the surviving passengers, Ibrahim Salihu, said that the accident occurred when their driver was allegedly overtaking a moving trailer.
According to him, the trailer, which tried to dodge a put-hole, ran into them.
The Area Commander, Bida Police Command, Ayo Olatunji, confirmed the death of the three people, and advised drivers to make sure that their front was always clear before overtaking.
“Drivers should be patient and avoid overtaking, if there is a pot hole ahead,” he said. (Daily Times )
