Agency introduces Modern tilling machine To Rural Farmers in Kebbi
Oct 16,2011- The Kebbi State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KARDA) has introduced a modern tilling machine to rural farmers in Kardi village.
Dr. Sani Kaoje, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, formally introduced the machine to the farmers on Friday.
Kaoje said that the introduction of the multi-purpose tilling machine was aimed at improving agricultural production, as it would enable farmers to increase their yield by 100 percent.
He told farmers that 1,000 pieces of the machine would be sold to them at a subsidised rate, and urged them to use the machines to enhance their productivity.
Kaoje also advised the farmers to form co-operative groups and associations, adding that this was a pre-condition for those who wanted to buy the machines from KARDA.
In his address, Dr. Usman Dakingari, KARDA’s Programme Manager, noted that the introduction of the farming machine would go a long way to reduce the current hardship faced by farmers in preparing farms for cultivation.
Some of the farmers expressed their readiness to buy the machine, as they said it would enable them to improve farm yield and reduce manual labour.
