Mikel Obi’s Family Deny N20m Ransom
August 19, 2011 – Contrary to false report claiming that Mikel’s Dad kidnapper demanded N20,000 from the family, the family has come out to debunk the story.
Tony Obi, eldest son of the retired civil servant and head of the family in his father’s continued absence, told newsmen that the family were shocked to hear about the supposed N20 million.
“Nobody has asked us for N20 million. There is nothing like that. We heard it on the radio and we were all very surprised because we don’t know where this is coming from,” he said.
Tony Obi declined to say what the ransom amount was, but a very close associate of the player, who is deeply involved in the process, disclosed that it was more in the region of ‘millions of dollars’.
Michael Obi has not been seen since he was abducted six days ago on his way back from work.
