So sad this ‘Apostle of gospel music’ is gone. Shame to all Christians of Igbo extraction! But it is more shameful & a big slap on the entire body of Assemblies Of God Church that they could sit and watch a mighty pillar in their ministry gradually slip to undue eternity for a meagre N10m surgery! What is N10m to even 222 Clifford Road in Aba here? How art the Christians fallen in doctrinal virtues! Well I know the reason why it is so. It is because we now “serve table” in our churches; let me quote Pastor Obassey. Love, as taught by Christ, has since taken its leave from the church. Patty kept warning about this. In his song ‘Ihunanya’, he summed it all up this way:
…N’ịhụnanya gbara ọsọ n’ụnọ-ụka kam gwa gi ihe chụrụ ya ọsọ:
Ire-otu na nkewa, akpọm-asi, mara mara n’iru, chụrụ ya ọsọ…”
Adieu, Papa Patrick Obassey. Adieu, my music minister! Onye kwere-ekwe anwụghị anwụ. Ohiga-ụra, mgbe ọ nụrụ opi-ike ọ g’ebilita, ọ g’ebili n’enweghị ure ọbụla; onye kwere-ekwe anwụghị anwụ!

Sincerely, I’m so annoyed at this sad news that I have to write in again. Pls don’t mean to tell me that only N10m would’ve saved this legend’s life! Just N10m! We’re talking of less than $63,700 here! The other day, news filtered in that one of our notable pastors here took delivery of a brand new Mercedes GL-500 jeep at a whooping N19m. Of all classes of people, a “pastor”! That aside, pls what is N10m to Rev. Dr. Charles Osueke (immediate past Superintendent General of Assemblies of God Church)? What is N10m to Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai; or to Bishop Mike Okonkwo of TREM; and even Dr. Sam Ominyi Egwu and his wife, Eunice? You need to witness these figures storm a religious or social function in jaw-dropping fleets. They are people who claimed they “maintain a cordial relationship” with Pastor Obassey. They pulled him to every length and breadth of Nigeria for to perform his wonderful tracks at their various crusades and events. At a time, I can still remember, Madam Eunice Egwu (then First Lady of Ebonyi State) seemed to fully own Pastor Obassey to herself. She begged him to minister at almost every event and pet projects takeoff she hosts. But at his time of despair and great need for their aid, they turned their backs on him. A paltry N10m! Oh, what a wicked world we live in! Special thanks to Professor Chinedu Nebo (former UNN VC). He remained ‘a friend in need’ to Pastor Obassey, even to the very end. Rest in peace, Man of God. We all shall meet in heaven! Adieu!!
From Patty’s biggest fan,
Mayor.

It was a rude shock when i heard of the death of this great servant of the most high God.A music maestro.A hero and one of the remaining last of true gospel singers that knew what gospel music is all about. With all the huge successes his albums made,it is a pity that he did not have ten million naira to save his life. But when D’banj sings his rubbish or Tuface or any of the so called raves of the moment, producers would pay them 11 million naira. If it were in America that a star like Patty Obasi lived,he would have been a mega don just from the sales of his gospel music. He was the best and still remains the best. His last album was a big hit but producers must have paid him peanuts because it was a gospel music,God will judge all of us.I am a musician myself but this man has got no rival.May his gentle soul rest in peace. When will he be buried.Assemblies of God would want to spend millions now to bury him. What a shame.

Its very sad that nigerian christianity is all noisy and empty. Here in London enter many nigerian churches pastors are busy dating and flirting with girls in the name of counselling. They have raised tithing to a level that even Christ didnt teach Christ in the gospel taught that tighting isnt an important thing yet nigerian christianity fallen into the deception in american christianity teach that tithe is the foundation of of the gospel and many dumb followers without an independent mind in their reading of the gospel belive all their lies and its in such a world that this man died without anyone to his aid with the money needed and he is not the first several have died who some sum would have saved yet their are so called followers of Christ who have such money to burn. The Gospel of Christ teach that you have two coats share one to a needy but naija christians teach something different ….they would ask the needy to work and pray hard for his own and but for them they need extra coats to show that the Lord is good………… this distortion God shared with me in a dream as reflecting the church today as we know it

Oh my mentor, so you have finally left this wicked world. You said it while you were alive that “if you are truly a Christian, that you will never feel at home here-the world that crucify Jesus’. They will not help you because you revealed the way they live; “Ufodu ji Bible jide otumokpo buzi ha na-enye anyi anoiting” Ufodu rere akonuche rekwuo inwere onwe ha n’ihi n’obu ego na-achi” may you gentle soul rest in the peace of the most high. Amen! You revealed their way in UBANESSE and DEMOCRACY. so the church nor the government may like to offer help because you truly lived.

First to thank Mayor and Patrick T. Oguejiofor for their coments, I am short of words! to hear that Blessed Patty Obassey was of the Assemblies of God Mission, naturally it’s a sin to the leaders of that so called mission and shame to them all!!
While “Roputaling One Anyi Igaefe” as Patty Obassey said, every body should also “Roputa Ezigbo Ndiotu Gi Naha Gaefe Chineke Site N’idinotu Nakwa Ifu Onweanyi N’anya!!” Nigeria is full of evil men and women, tell me, a country where almost the criminals call themselves pastors have chains of private jets that costs up to 4 billion naira each stood their ground and watched their fellow pastor died for lack of just 10 million naira.
No amount of tears or words as for now can do us any thing, it’s been a broken bottle that can never repair again!!
Ezi Nwannem, ebe obu n’ijebego, nodimma!! Your holy place is there, well prepared for you by He whom you served, our Lord, Christ Jesus.

Very sad indeed. All through this week, I’ve been listening to his song, and “Nani gi ka Obim n’acho” has been ministrying to me and reconnecting me to God. I only broused to see where he’s at now, only to find out he’s been dead for so long (2012?) Jeees! I feel so bad right now 😭😢😭😭😭😢😢😢
May his soul rest in peace.

I can’t stop crying. Since 2012 and am just hearing of his demise? I just played one of his tracks this morning as I always do when am troubled or when sin comes calling. His songs always lift my spirit and make me to keep pushing in the Lord. His songs is one of the reasons I gave my life to Christ. I always told myself but if Patty Obasi can stand why not you? So I asked my child to get my phone for me and I google his name and saw this.
I was shocked when I heard he died because Christians could not afford #10 million for him….Like Mayor and others have commented earlier, why would the world help you since you are not part of their evils. I blame the Christians; not only Assembles of God both Catholics, and others. Those that his songs had touched in one way or another
My mentor, Rev.Patty Obasi, you had seen this and warned the church but they did not heed to your advice. In your album ihunanya” N’ oge mbu odi I’ve ejiri Mara ndi kwere ekwe, ndi mbu n’ eji maranatha anata I’ve n’aka, ndi mbu n’eji oke ihunanya ebute IBU diri Ibe ha. Mgbe alaeze bu oriri anya mgbe okwukwe nwere ihunanya. N’ihunanya gbara oso n’ uka kam gwa GI I’ve churu ya oso, nwanne mu na ya n’ achu muo si na mu Yuri muo. Nwanne muna ya chuga muo so na mu Yuri muo. Owee buru okwa ka ana- azo….” #crying# This was why you died. Christians don’t bear their burdens anymore. All their want is “power and influence”
But am happy because you made it. Just like St.Paul said “I have fought a good fight…..” You have fought a good fight and I know by now you are resting with golden crown on your head in your mansion that the souls you saved and keep saving with your preaching and songs had built for you. Like you said in one of your songs” onye kwere ekwe anwughi anwu, ohiga ura mgbe onuru opi ike o ga ebinite, o ga ebinite n’ enweghi ure, onye kwere ekwe anwughi anwu. Odabiri nwuo, oyara ya nwuo doro anya mana onye kwere nwere orire anya n’enigwe. Igwe nine jege n’uzo mana onye kwere nwere orire anya mbinite. Jesus nke no n’ime m ya but orire anyam….” . Rest in peace Dad. I shall continue to run my own race and contribute positively to human race, so help me God. Nodi nma, anyi n’ abia o.
