Delta State: Commissioner orders principal to refund illegal levies
Oct 16,2011- Delta State: Commissioner orders principal to refund illegal levies
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Delta State, Prof. Patrick Muobaghare, has ordered a school principal to refund to the students, within one week, money illegally collected from them
He issued the directive to the principal, whose school is in Emeragha community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, during a meeting with principals of public schools in Asaba.
“Bring the money and the list of the students who paid the levy to my office and I will send some ministry officials to the school to refund the money to the students,” he said.
Muobaghare said that the ministry had not approved any PTA levy for any school in the state since the beginning of the year, advising parents and guardians to be wary of any unauthorised levy.
He also warned that any teacher who failed to report for duty would not be paid for the number of days he or she had been absent, and directed the principals to report erring teachers to him, warning that principals of schools with undisciplined teachers would be sanctioned.
