Nigerian Pastor, Adamawa Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board Secretary Jinga Mayo Arrested For Embezzling N69.2 Million

The Executive Secretary of the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Pastor Dr Jinga Mayo, has been arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for embezzling funds meant for the committee members of the Adamawa State Christian Pilgrims Board.

A statement by the spokesperson for the ICPC, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, said Mayo was arraigned before Justice Nathan Musa of the High Court 1 in Yola on three counts bordering on stealing.

He was charged for making a false claim on the sum of N69.2m he received to pay the committee members for the 2016 pilgrimage to Israel.

The ICPC said while Mayo did not pay the money to the committee members, he allegedly returned duly signed payment vouchers and acknowledgement receipts supposedly by each member of the committee.

The commission said the action was contrary to and punishable under Section 16 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The statement read in part, “The accused was also charged for conferring corrupt advantage upon himself contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and also for making a false statement to an officer of the ICPC contrary to Section 25 (1) (a) and punishable under Section 25 (1) (b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.”

The statement said Mayo pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the commission, while the prosecuting lawyer, Anas Kolo, prayed the court to fix a date for the trial.

Mayo’s lawyer, J. E. Owe, informed the court that he had filed an application for bail, which was granted by the court in the sum of N30m with one surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

The court adjourned the case till March 5 and 6, 2019, for the commencement of trial.

  1. How many sets of pilgrims did he embezzle their funds that the money got to N69million without detection? Very annoying story. Where were the auditors when this was going on, or do they trust this man not to steal simply because he is secretary in a religion connected board?mchweeeew!

    • You get eagle eyes and may your wisdom increase, people never understand what’s going on in Nigeria….i never see you around for long time..greetings.

  2. The elders say, “character is like smoke, it cannot be hidden”, so whether you try to cover it with whatever cloak you choose, a decorated monkey is still a monkey

  3. All you’ve read about me here are lies. It’s a political witch hunt for not supporting the ruling party. I used my own money to developed the Board that was looking like a pigry house. I built a new one story office building comprises of 7 offices & a 50 seater Board Room, dug a water borehole, trained 100 Christian farmers in Israel, bought office & PA systems & lots of things that they never had in its 28yrs of existence. I never forge anything at all, rather in their desperation to nail me they’re saying all of this.
I fear God & I know I fear God. As the building & most of what I did I used my personal money with a permission from my Governor. We are in court & it looks good for I’m winning the case. So don’t believe everything you hear especially from Govt agencies as they’re never promoting good governance rather they’re only used by Govt against perceived enemies. Dr Mayo Jinga.
