Yvonne Jegede was born in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria on 25th August 1983. She had her primary and secondary education in Lagos, Nigeria as a child growing up.
Like every child, Yvonne had a dream, which was to become a super model and a beauty queen because because of her love for attention and the admiration which she got as a child when growing up being the first child in her family. However things didn’t quite work according to her dreams and instead of becoming a model, she was introduced to the movie industry by Charles Novia, a movie director in 2004. She told the story of how she saw the movie director around Surulere one night and shouted his name out of excitement.
When Charles turned out of surprise and saw her, he wondered if they had met before. He then handed her his complimentary card and asked her to call him if she wanted to become an actress. She went for an audition the next day and during the audition, she also got the invitation to feature in Tuface’s African Queen music video which was the beginning of her fame. Her appearance in the music video gave rise to some speculations that
Yvonne had a thing with Tuface. When asked if she was in a love affair with him, Yvonne said there was no such thing and her relationship with Tuface was purely professional. Yvonne also appeared in Djnee’s music video Ego, and Sound Sultan’s Kokose video. She later featured in Missing Angels, the movie she was auditioning for which was the first she ever acted. Even though Yvonne got into the movie industry and was starting to enjoy some success and fame, that did not get into her head as she left Nigeria to study in Cyprus for a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations before returning to Nigeria in 2012 to continue acting movies in Nollywood.
Yvonne enjoyed speed in the industry as only three years after her return, she produced “3 is Company” her first movie in which she was a lead actresses with other famous actors and actresses in 2015, and the premier was took place at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island in Lagos on 3rd July 2015.
Concerning her relationship status and her stand on marriage, she mentioned in an interview that she still wanted to get married. Her dream of getting married and starting a family came true when she confirmed a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Olakunle Fawole whom she wedded after ten years of dating. Her wedding was certainly a colourful traditional wedding in Edo State with many actors and actresses in attendance.
She even made the cover of the wedding edition of Genevieve Magazine owing to her beautiful wedding attire. Yvonne is not just a beautiful Nigerian actress but she has something that sets her apart. According to her, her physical beauty is not her “selling point” but rather it is her brains. This is confirmed by the numerous awards she has won in the course of her career namely:
1. She was given the award for Best Actress of the Year during the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, a major award in the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
2. She has also been rightly recognized as the most promising Nigerian actress which award was given her at the City People Entertainment Awards, another major Nollywood event.
3. She has also been awarded best supporting actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, the foremost African movie event even bigger than the first two.
Yvonne Jegede like any typical Nigerian celebrity has had her fair share of praises, criticisms, accusations and speculations. For instance it was rumoured that she had undergone plastic surgery for breast enhancement which she denounced. The actress said she had always been busty right from her teen years. It was also reported that she had a miscarriage, a report that really upset her. She said no such thing happened and the reporter should have at least spoken to her before reporting such untrue stories. She was upset that people would wish her bad luck just because they needed stories and rejected such wishes which she said would not happen to her.
According to reports, her husband was also offended by the statement and lashed out on those responsible for those writing them. However, this is one of the things one has to live with as a celebrity. Because the marriages of many Nollywood actors and actresses have crashed, Yvonne was asked if her career would affect her marriage and she said it wouldn’t because she knows where to draw the line and the fact that her husband is also an actor will make it easier for him to understand her position.
Yvonne has told stories of herself how that just two years before she got introduced to Nollywood, she was roaming the streets of Lagos, recounting one night that she had to spend under a bridge which she remembered was around 2am. However, she thanked God for bringing her to where she is today, acknowledging God as the source of her help. Yvonne apparently loves her family. Her mother past in the year 2016 shortly after her wedding and it was obviously very disheartening to her.
She lamented and wished that she was alive for a little longer. Yvonne doesn’t love her father any less as she has pictures of herself and her dad all over the internet. She even wrote a letter to him titled “Letter to my Boyfriend” which is all over the internet as well. Many people thought she was cheating on her husband already by writing a love letter to someone else but that only showed her strong ties with her father who she described as her boyfriend, her sugar daddy, and every word you can find which describes love.
Yvonne Jegede apart from being an actress, a movie director and producer is also a philanthropist and an influential and successful actress with an estimated net worth of 600, 000 US Dollars.
